Reiki is a healing method developed in the late 19th century by Mikao Usui. It is taught using a “gentle hands on” approach. Reiki is based on the idea that a universal "life-force energy" flows through every living being, and is responsible for wellness. Usui believed that if “life-force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick and feel the impact of stress more intensely.

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: “Rei”, meaning "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power", and “Ki”, which is "life force energy".
